Associated Species: Arctostaphylos myrtifolia and Eriogonum apricum (see Gankin & Major, Ecology 45: 792-808. 1964, for detailed ecological discussion of the site). An extraordinary modification, presumably of the common crus-tose Aspicilia, aft. A. cinerea), reacting KOH+ blood-red (norstictic acid), prostrate and fruticose on soil but reverting to a crustose form whenever the thallus. comes in contact with small scattered pebbles.
