Habitat: Forming extensive mats emergent in thaw pockets, associated with Sphagnum riparium, S. angustifolium, and Carex aquatilis. Thaw pockets sporadic in subarctic woodland on permafrost in vegetation dominated by Picea mariana, Betula Ledum groenlandicum, L. palustre, Sphagnum fuscum, Sphagnum nemoreum, Cladonia rangiferina, and C. mitis.
