Habitat: Wet cool Montane rain or cloud forest, 15-20 m tall canopy of epiphyte-covered Metrosideros collina and Cheirodendrom trigynum; shrub layer of many tree ferns (Cibotium spp., Sadlera, Marattia douglasii), Pelea, Rubiaceae; and many small ferns, Cyrtandra spp., etc.; in deep peaty mulch on forest floor.
