Wet cool MONTANE RAIN OR CLOUD FOREST, 15 -20 m tall canopy of epiphyte-covered Metrosideros collina & Cheirodendron trigynum; shrub layer of many tree ferns (Cibotium spp, Sadlera, Marattia douglasii) Pelea, Rubiaceae; and many small ferns, Cyrtandra spp., etc.; in deep peaty mulch on forest floor.
